Pokémon & Mario Fangames
The internet proved to be chock full of homemade PC games for the bored-of-the-same-old-games crowd. Many of these games show that game programming can be much more limitless than Rom hacking.
NOTE (2023): I believe most of these are available elsewhere (mostly Mario Fan Games Galaxy and the Internet Archive), but if there's anything here you can't find, contact us at tymime @ gmail.com and we'll upload it somewhere.
Find Misty!
A ridiculously simple game from Japan. The game actually helps you win- there's no challenge!
Pikachu Volleyball
A fun little game. Also from Japan.
Poké Solitaire
Takes the standard Windows Solitaire game and puts Pokémon, Mario, and other Japanese stuff in it. Fun.
Poké Solitaire (3D)
Another one, this time with 3D graphics, sort of.
Pokémon Tetris
Gaaah! Not Tetris again!
Invasion Of The Pokémon
Anti-Pokémon game. Stick figure goes on a mission to kick Pokémon butt. 'Cause, you know, Pokémon's evil. And stuff.
Pokémon Memory
There are plenty of Pokémon memory games out there, it's just that this is the first one I found that I could actually download. It's in German too, so that's a bonus (for me, at least).
Pokémon World
Now this is fascinating. Pokémon Yellow in 3D! Sorta. It's not fully developed, but a highlight is the guy working at the PokPokéMart.
Mario Bros. VGA
A version of Mario Bros. for DOS. The sound effects are nice.
Mario & Luigi
Not to be confused with Superstar Saga. A well-done game, but it's full-screen, which is why the screenshot above looks squashed. It was supposed to be stretched!
Super Mario XP
We assume this is supposed to be for Windows XP... A strange game, really. The entire atmosphere is dark and gloomy, Mario sounds like somebody from some gory anime, and there's blood and stuff.
Super Goomba Bros.
As a lone Goomba, you must get past Mario and friends and get back to your boss Bowser. The enemies don't all include Mario and friends, (that alone is silly enough- there's sprites from all sorts of games) there's other wacky stuff like Sonic the Hedgehog, Link, Monster Ranchers, and others.
Yoshi vs. Windows
Yoshi must stop Bill Gates from taking over the world! If he really were, he's not making a very good effort.

Updated version of Yoshi vs. Windows.

Mario appears to be exploring the world. Has elements of Wario Land 4, which is interesting. Now, what does "chameleon" mean?

Now this is a well-done game.

Based on the space levels of SML2, which is clever.
Mario In Worlds Unknown
An odd game that slightly changes the usual Mario platformer rules- Mushrooms award points and you can't jump on anything!
Mario In Worlds Unknown 2- Return Of Koopa
Koopa is back from heck (with Mario's Time Machine screenshots to help him out)- and you have to stop him!
Super Mario Bros. 4
Not much more than a SMB3 clone, but it feels like a Mario game. I suppose that's the point, really. Tons of coins.
Super Mario Epic
SMW with Yoshi's Island, eh? No stomping allowed here!
Super Mario Epic 2- Dream Machine
Boy it's got every game in here now... complete with stomping!
Super Mario Final
Rather glitchy. The physics aren't quite right. Odd choice of graphics too.

A combination of SMW and SMS where you build pipes- unique!

Interesting game in French.

SMW based game.

SMB based game. Nicely done. Underworld levels are in black and white!

A nice companion to Super Wario World on the Mario hacks page, the unloved Waluigi gets his own game!

Looks fun, but we can't figure out how to start the game. Perfect Mario imitation!
